Avoiding S.A.D in Vancouver
March 29, 2017
It has been the longest, coldest, snowiest, and wettest winter Vancity has had in years. Too much drear and not enough sunshine has the ability to really affect our mood, energy levels, sociability, and overall wellbeing. Everyone is just waiting for the tide to turn, for the blossoms to bloom, for the sun to give us new life! Here are some things you can do to counteract the grey, change your feels, and make the most of it:
Try to arrange the spaces you spend time in to maximize sunlight exposure. ie. move furniture so that you sit near a window, keep curtains open during the day
Make a habit of taking daily noon-hour walks. Being outdoors regardless of rain will stimulate your brain and breathe fresh air into your system
Install skylights and add lamps
Trim trees or branches that could be blocking light from entering your home and office spaces
Plan a trip just a few states south of the border. California is a hop-skip away and a sure bet for frequent plane ticket sales
Make the most of every sunny day and be outside as long as you can! Think of it as charging up your batteries.
Speaking of sun ... forecast predicts some sunshine coming our way Thursday & Friday - get it!
PS. Shout out to United & Free, a local plant-based skincare company here in Vancouver. Nice snapbacks!
